I'm actually feeling really great for a guy who just lost his job today. No, really!

I've been working as Controller for this parking company in downtown Philly for a little over a year now. The very day I start there, they get bought out by an investment group. This "group" watches every single penny and just kept piling more and more and more work on me, most of it needless but necessary to keep my job. After a few months, I was up until two every single morning and still not being able to keep up with what they were shoveling on me. The General Manager kept firing my staff, so we were always in startover mode. They would not spring for a laptop for me so that I could be productive on my hour-long train commute each day to AND from work (let's see, 260 work days times two hours = 520 hours divided by 8 hours in a workday = SIXTY FIVE days worth of work I could have done on the train instead of when I got home at night, missing meals, family time and SLEEP, all to save $1000 bucks.) Morons. The good side of all that free time on the train is that I have now listened to every second ever produced by Pendant!

The day before I left for the Pendant Picnic, I told my boss that I am done with the long hours and I am going to be looking out for myself, my health and my family from now on, and that things either change or I'm out the door. Ever since I got back, he has avoided me, so I knew the writing was on the wall...I would certainly hope so, 'cause I put it there! After a month of dodging this elephant in the room nobody wanted to talk about, I sent an email to my boss saying that I want to know what is going on. He avoided talking to me for three more days, until I pressed the issue again yesterday, at which point he tells me they are hiring a temp starting Monday, and that Friday is my last day, per Corporate. I remind him that the replacement has no training, has no idea what I even do, where to find things and has no idea what is involved with performing the month-end close, which is 10 solid days of hellacious work. My boss now is trying to get me to come in from time to time and help train the employee. Again, moron.

Anyway, I am FREE! Free to sleep, free to be with my family, free to go swimming, free to BBQ, free to be Darth Vader, free to see movies and TV, free to have a life again. Yeah, I gotta still find a new full-tme job and/or work hard on building the home business me and my wife started, but anything has to be better that what I was doing for the last year. :) :) :)
